One of the best ice cream places out there is the Penn State Creamery.  It only has one location, Penn State University  of course.  The lines are long, usually reaching out the door, but the ice cream is worth the wait.

The creamery has been around since 1865 when it was simply churning butter from inside a dorm.  People wonder and even ask why The Creamery doesn’t expand and create more locations.  According to Creamery manager Tom Palchak, who grew up in Trafford and has been with the Creamery for 25 years, "Penn State wants to be seen as an industry-builder rather than a competitor.”

For 110 years, Penn State has been offering short ice cream making courses.  Representatives of almost every household-name ice cream company have attended, including Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry's in 1974. Penn States ice cream recipe is no secret; they actually hand out the formula and even have an “at-home” version.

Opening ice cream stores everywhere would make The Creamery compete with graduates of the classes for business and as Tom Palchak previously said, "Penn State wants to be seen as an industry-builder rather than a competitor."

The one rule at the creamery, NO MIXING FLAVORS.  The only exception to this rule that has been made was for President Clinton. The Creamery has been featured on many TV shows both for food, travel, and discovery. If you’re looking for delicious ice cream, look no further than the Penn State Creamery.
