After the eagles lost to the Dallas Cowboys for the third time this season, effectively knocking them out of the playoffs, many people thought that the loss marked the end of an era.  Many more hope it is.

Be careful what you wish for.

People have hated Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid for eleven years now, despite the pair having the greatest decade in Eagles history.

It seems that people want to hate McNabb just to hate him.  When he was drafted before Ricky Williams in the 1999 draft people booed mercilessly.  However when Williams decided to stop playing football so he could move to California and study Holistic medicine, and McNabb was winning playoff games and Pro-bowls everyone seemed to forget that 1999 draft.

After Donovan led the Eagles to four consecutive division titles and four consecutive NFC championship games, with a no-name receiving corps, Donovan was booed.  Philadelphia wanted a Super bowl.

In 2008 when the Eagles lost to the Arizona Cardinals 32-25 people complained that Donovan couldn’t win a big game.  They tend to forget, however, that down six, late in the fourth quarter McNabb engineered a fantastic touchdown drive to give the Eagles a late lead that the defense could not defend.

So now in 2009, after an 11-5 season, a wild card playoff berth, and a first round playoff loss to a bitter rival, Eagles fan once again are ready to rid themselves of Donovan McNabb.

Be careful what you wish for.

Kevin Kolb, who would become the franchise quarterback, if McNabb were to leave, has had two starts.  One was a win against the Kansas City Chiefs, who have arguably the worst secondary in the NFL, and another against a ball-hawking New Orleans secondary, which proved to be too much for the young quarterback, he lost 48-22, posting an awful second half.

While Kevin Kolb is a promising young quarterback, for the first time in Donovan McNabb’s career he is surrounded with young talent.  Two legitimate starting wide receivers, a fast running back, who has the help of a pro-bowl fullback, and an up and coming defense.

Yes, in the past he has had great defenses.  He has had a great running back, Brian Westbrook.  He has had a great wide receiver, Terrell Owens, but for the first time in his career, it has all come together seamlessly, and McNabb still has one or two good seasons ahead of him.

In fact last season was one of McNabb’s best.  He posted the third best QB rating of his career along with the third most passing yards of his career, with a dismal offensive line that let him get sacked 35 times.  Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees, who are considered to be the three best NFL quarterbacks, were all sacked 20 times or less.

Next year, with a healthy (cross your fingers) offensive line and defense, along with two explosive receivers, a super fast young running back, and a pro-bowl fullback, people want to get rid of arguably the best quarterback in franchise history, and instead have a inexperienced, unproven player take the helm.  That just doesn’t make much sense.

As for Andy Reid, another person who was criticized upon his arrival in Philadelphia has more wins than any Eagle head coach, the best win percentage in Eagles history, and more playoff appearances than any Eagle head coach.

Just as he has compiled the greatest, youngest, and most talented team of his tenure, Philadelphia wants him gone too.  That just doesn’t make much sense.

The duo of Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb is the best quarterback, coach in Eagles history, and one of the best of the decade, but people aren’t satisfied.

It took Tony Dungy eleven years to win a Super Bowl and it took Bill Cowher fifteen years before he won a super bowl.  Both are considered Hall of Fame coaches.

The only thing that Andy Reid lacks before being considered for the Hall of Fame is a Super Bowl.  Now with the best team he has ever had some people think it is time for him, along with McNabb, one of the best quarterbacks in Eagles history to leave, and that just doesn’t make much sense.

Hate?...maybe disagree Why must one be a hater if not in favor of #5 being the QB?
