At 19-3A district Apr. 13-14 at Connally HS, the varsity girls track team placed third in all three relays, sending all three to regionals. The combination of Brittany Perales, Chelsi Gill, DeAijha “DeDe” Boyce-Hicks, and Zhaquvion Hall captured bronze medals in the 4x100 and 4x200 with times of 49.24 in the shorter race, less than a second behind the district champion Connally Cadets, and 1:45.49 in the longer one, its best time of the year.
The 4x400 (Ebony Clayton, Olivia Garcia, Brittney Ware, and Rebecca Nesbitt) ran a time of 4:22.86, good enough for third place to be selected for the Apr. 22 regional qualifiers meet in McGregor and advance to the regional meet itself in Humble on Apr. 30-May 1.
Freshman Zhaquvion Hall placed second in the 100 with a time of 12.42, her personal best. Gill ran a 25.96 in the 200-meter dash, edging out Boyce-Hicks for third place. Distance runner Sarai Martinez placed third in the 3200 to punch her ticket to regionals as well with a time of 13:43.49.
The JV girls track and field team finished sixth at District with 42 points, led by Justyce Barnes, who won the discus with a toss of 75'4" and placed third in the shot put (26'8"), Natasha Dickson's runnerup finish in the 200 (28.66) and fifth in the 100 (13.78), Daniela Martinez's fourth in the 1600 (6:45.00), and the 1600-meter relay team of Martinez, Daniela Sanchez, Olivia Davis, and Stephani Brown, who combined to run a time of 5:13.74 for third.
At the Apr. 22 McGregor Regional Qualifiers Meet, the 800 relay triumphed in 1:46.97 as did the 1600-meter group (4:17.73), while the 400 quartet was edged out by Connally and timed in 49.83. Individually, Hall was second in the 100 (12.11), Gill third in the 200 (26.93), and Martinez fifth in the 3200 (13:24.45).
