After the March 16 Fairfield game was cancelled due to rain (no make-up planned), the Modoc varsity baseball team dropped a 15-4 game to China Spring Mar. 19 with Edward Jones going 2 for 2 with a run, Tony Montoya 1 for 2 with a run, and Tyler Baker and Dylan Klish each scoring once.
Against powerhouse Robinson Mar. 23, Klish provided the offensive highlight with a home run and Bry Williams also hammered out a hit in a 15-1 loss.
On March 26, La Vega lost a 14-10 slugfest to Groesbeck with the first six Pirates scoring, including Baker, pitcher Tony and Austin Montoya, Travis Deleon (who all scored once later), Jeremy Jackson, and Klish, who provided the season highlight with a three-run homer, while Baker-Tony Montoya each batted in two, Austin Montoya and Santiago Olvera one each.
The JV lost to Robinson, 14-0, on March 23 with Michael Deak going 1 for 2 as did Jay Dixon and Daniel Davila, both with doubles. In the next game, the Pirates dropped a 7-6 contest to Groesbeck as Anthony Mitchell, Deak (with an RBI), Michael Drummond (RBI and a stolen base), and Jay Dixon scored, while Mario Perez batted in a run, and Jonathan Bailey pitched.
Both squads travel to Lorena for a Mar. 30 district matchup, beginning at 4:30.
