Carson Williamson -

Being captain of the swim team, senior Carson Williamson feels he brings leadership, charisma, and excitement to his teammates.

But the funny thing is, after swimming on the team for two years, he doesn’t really love the sport.

Williamson originally started swimming to get stronger for water polo, which he played at Franklin during his freshman year. But despite his feelings toward the sport, he has decided to pursue swimming all the way through college.

Although he is going to continue the sport he says, “I hate swimming, it’s the same thing over and over again.”

However, by continuing to swim he found he was good at it. He said that is the only thing about it he likes.

Swim coach and science teacher Marcus Sherman said Williamson is a captain who brings a good vibe to the team.

“He’s very mature, very supportive, and hard working ,” Sherman said.

Williamson also feels he is a pretty good captain, and he enjoys his teammates.

The only struggle he has had as captain is having people who don’t do what they should.

However, he tries his best to work with his teammates, “We have fun, and if we have a problem I sit down with them and try to talk it out.”

Sherman said that the others on the team think he is a good leader and they respect Williamson as captain.

The struggle Sherman has seen with Williamson is the struggle within himself.

He occasionally gets frustrated with his swim times.

But this frustration only motivates him to do better and try harder the next time.

Being that Williamson does not like the repetitiveness in swimming, it would make sense that Williamson’s best stroke, according to Sherman, is the sprint freestyle.

“The only thing that hurt him is that he hasn’t swam longer,” Sherman said.

Williamson agrees since he’s only been swimming since sophomore year.

Although Williamson has been swimming for three years, after swim meets he says he usually feels like he wants to go to practice and give it his all.

Sherman is glad that he has had Williamson on the team, and said, “I’m glad he is moving forward and will have a chance to swim at Delta.”

Despite his feelings about swimming, Williamson, in a way, has grown to like it because of his talent and the company of his swim mates saying, “I stuck with it, because it’s fun.”
