A band formed in Las Vegas isn’t expected to be signed with a decent record label. No one expects them to beat out major celebrities such as Christina Aguilera, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and win “The Video of the Year” in the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. Nor does anyone expect them to sell 2.2 million records for their first album. No one expects them to go anywhere beyond their garage.

Although no one expected anything from them, Panic at the Disco not only achieved all of this but is also still captivating music lovers all over the world with their appropriately titled album “Pretty. Odd.”

From the first glance of the title you can instantly expect that the band not only wants you to see the obvious but search for a deeper meaning as well.

Unlike their first album, “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out,” which is much like walking through a carnival with broken hearts and a thirst for revenge, “Pretty. Odd” is more high tempo.

It’s a compilation of rock, techno, electronica, and a bit of pop intertwined with their circus-freak trademark.

Not only is the sound different, but the lyrics have also dramatically changed. Instead of little musical anecdotes of lost lovers that cannot be reached Panic at the Disco’s new lyrics are of love, letting go, and ultimately freeing yourself and indulging in life’s simple pleasures.

Panic at the Disco has stepped completely out of their comfort zone and intertwined more mature sounds inspired by music you would see while rummaging though your parents’ old records such as the Beatles, Beach Boys, and The Kinks while still staying true to their own carnival-like theme.

A complete transformation from their first album “Pretty. Odd.” has much more of a classic sound and has taken the art of words to a level that puts you in a serene state of nostalgia.

Yes, it may seem a little hippie-ish but with all of the extravagant metaphors you will definitely be entertained as its melody carries you to a distant place far from the complicated situations that are sometimes forced upon us.
