“A Lipdub is a huge viral video where the whole school comes together to sing, dance, and act synchronized to a song in the coolest and most creative way,” says senior Gus Serrano, the director of our school’s Lipdub. The first and second stages have been completed: posters and the announcement at the homecoming assembly. Now it is time for the third stage and Serrano would love your ideas and suggestions for songs.
He is looking at the possibility of multiple songs so if you cannot decide on just one that is all right. Arvada and Lakewood High Schools have both created Lipdubs previous years (one has even been on 9News) and now, as a united school, our Lipdub will be even more extravagant. “If this is an ordinary Lipdub, there would be no point of a Lipdub at all,” says Serrano.
So far, Serrano has been working on three ideas with the help of: seniors A.J. Pasko, Luca DelPiccolo, Connor Marvel and junior Ben McBride. Ideas from all students are welcomed; however, currently there are three concepts in the running for the Lipdub. The first is a love story. Instead of doing a song and dance similar to schools of previous years, the boys have decided to make this a story. It would be about a boy and girl who meet first in their freshman year and their story up until senior year. The second idea for the choreography is to use filters and effects, for example, black and white, or sepia for an old movie effect and a scene similar to Grease with oldies type of music. The third idea is to do slow motion for one part of the video, such as if someone threw something and it went into slow motion and then back to full speed.
The lipdub will most likely take place at the end of the school year, so it’s important to stay interested in it because it’s a big deal and a great way to show off our school. Serrano is looking into the idea of getting famous local bands such as The Fray and 3oh!3 to give their input. If you have any way to get in contact with these bands or any good bands, please let Serrano know by emailing him at wrhs.lipdub@gmail.com. Auditions for a lead in the lipdub are estimated to be in the spring of this school. Lipdubs can be costly and donations are most appreciated in the spring semester.
