Although I wouldn't call rap my favorite genre, but Blue Scholars are definitely changing my opinion. They fall into the same category as Immortal Technique and Dead Prez. But this duo mixes jazz guitar and piano with amazing beats and poetic and political lyrics.

Coming from Seattle, Washington, Blue Scholars bring a unique blend to the table. I'm so used to hearing rap about "keeping it crunk" and being pimps that it was a relief to hear good rap. MC Geologic has a history of being an eloquent poet in Seattle as well being a battle emcee. But I especially love how he is comfortable enough to bring his political views into his music ( Blink ). DJ Sabzi chooses so many amazing beats and background that it really impressed me. I really loved Burnt Offering because of the smooth melody and beat.

I must say though, after listening to the cd a little more, the first five songs all started to sound the same. But really, what album doesn't do that after excessive listening?

So for all those who like the rap scene, I definitely recommend picking up this CD. But for anyone else, stick to your usual iPod playlist.
