The boys’ basketball team, led by new head coach David Adelman, has locked a spot in the State playoffs, but potential for success depends on its seeding in the tournament.

A win in their final game of the regular season against Wilson (11-12, 4-7 PIL) scheduled for Feb. 22 would guarantee the boys at least a share of the PIL 6A championship and a number-two seed from the PIL in the playoffs. If Benson beat Grant, the Cards will claim the PIL championship outright and the number-one seed.

Claiming the number-one seed would give the boys a bye in the first round of the bracket on Feb. 28, and they would play the winner of the Mt. Hood League number-three seed and Southwest League number-two seed Sheldon at home on March 3. A number-two seed would put the Cards up against the Central Valley number three-seed in the first round. a home on Feb. 28.

An exciting over-time win Tuesday night against Madison (63-55), made possible by Connor Johnson’s baseline three with three seconds left in regulation, gives high hopes for the playoff-bound Cards. “The team is really starting to come together as one unit,” said senior Kevin Reynolds, who has been averaging 19.1 points per game. “I think we’ll go pretty far and make it to Mac Court.”
