He was one of 11 teachers who have been without a classroom this year, but now science teacher Tristan Gleason finally has a space to call his own. After carting equipment and chemicals around school for the first semester, Gleason has moved into Room 105. Previously, the room was the location of the student store and the bookkeeper, as well as desk and flex space for two other teachers.

Principal Peyton Chapman made the decision to move Gleason after an “emergency room use” meeting was called. The room committee cited the need for adequate lab space for science classes, and language teachers’ preference to not use a science room, as reasons for the change.

The relocation created more space issues, however, when the student store was moved to Room 11, the Executive council room. After student body President Austin Shiner took a tour of the building with Chapman to find a new space, it was concluded that the only other places available were custodians’ closets in the basement.

A meeting between Executive Council, student store coordinators, and Chapman resolved the issue. “Just before the meeting, we realized that the student store could, for the rest of the year, move into what is now the concessions stand in between Neva Knott’s room and Christine Jenkins’ room,” Shiner wrote in an email.

The student store will move into the concessions stand when basketball season ends, and Executive Council will keep Room 11.

The solution is only temporary, and the concessions stand will be used again next fall and winter.
