Counselor Mr. RosendoArreguin created "Time to Move" fitness club to teach students the correct way to exercise and deal with obesity.
"Exercising needs to be prioritized," Mr .Arreguin said.
In a random survey 92 out of 100 students go out to eat to fast food restaurants: McDonalds, Buffalo Wild Wings, Burger King, Wingstop, Culvers, Hooters, etc. All of these restaurants are full of calories and fat and offer "family-sized" portions. Everyday
small decisions can have an effect on long-term health.
"The fitness club is basically triggering those non- athletes that would like to be healthy, and even those who might want to learn something new," counselor Mr. Rosendo Arreguin said.
There are many ways students can become healthy and be active. But you need motivation.
"One way students can stay fit is by making better choices when going to the student café," Mr. Arreguin said.
More and more students want to be healthy. There are now 49 student participants in "Time to Move," and it's growing. The club meets every Thursday at 3 p.m. in the weight room, for now.
"We discuss proper workout strategies and tips, and heatlhy eating. The first week, we ran a fitness mile to see how fit everyone was," Mr. Arreguin said.
Fortunately there are many easy exercises people can do every day.
"Mr. Arreguin teaches us the correct way to work out, he teaches us about cardio, upper and lower body," junior Edgar Rodriguez said.
We asked what's one exercise that's basic to do every day.
"One exercise people can do every day is walk or run for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Not only that, but they can do easy squats," senior Jazmin Ascencio said.
Since guys are more into working out, we asked what can be done to get a sixpack. "You have to do a lot of abs, eat proteins and carbs," Esteban Gonzalez said.
Many of those who exercise do it for themselves, but some do it to impress others, and that shouldn't be the case. Because in the end, it's always going to be yourself and nobody else.
"I exercise for myself. I don't need to impress anyone," Esteban Gonzalez said.
Many girls and guys have low self-esteem and low body image. But, many of them don't do anything to make themselves feel better.
"Time to Move" is for those students who want to make a change for their own good.
