This school year, Morton has decided that every two Tuesdays of each month will be a late start day, due to teachers having meetings in the morning.
On regular school days students at Morton usually start at 8 o’clock am, and on late starts first class begins at 9 o’clock with every class having a shorter period, except lunch periods.
“I like it because you get more sleep and there are more students attending classes.” Said, Senior Stephanie Pontarelli.
Some teachers prefer not to have late start Tuesdays because students don’t have enough time to do class work.
“I don’t like it because three P.E classes don’t have enough time to play.” Said Mr. Melvin P.E Teacher
On the other hand most students enjoy having late start Tuesday.
“I like them as a teacher, I feel more motivated to meet in the morning than in the afternoon. “Coach Yepez said.
Since students now have a late start, they seem to get to school even later.
“Yeah, students are usually later then before because they get an extra hour of sleep and they’re too lazy to get up. Just like me!” Junior Yadira Martinez said.
Some people are more active in the morning on late starts.
“We as teachers we are busy with meetings in the morning.” Dean Baranowski said.
Some students like late starts more because it affects their class time.
“You start later and some classes are shorter, it’s good because you have more time to get ready and eat a good breakfast.” senior, Jesse Carillo.
Some people just like extra time in the morning.
“You have an hour more to get ready and eat a good breakfast.” Junior, Stephanie Perez.
Even though Morton has late start, people still wake up on usual times.
“I still have to be here at 7’O clock.” Security, Charles said. (P.Diddy)
And some people are just used to waking up early.
“I wake up at 6’O clock in the morning to come to school.” Sophmore, Rebeca Jurado.
In October late start Tuesdays are scheduled for Tuesday the 4th and the 18th.
