Are you that 1/10 of a point? That was the motto this summer for the band, alluding to last year when they missed the placement into the state final completion by a 1/10 of a point. “And though it’s not a conducive to always dwell on the past, analyzing and evaluating previous performance will help to adapt procedures and goals for the future” says Mr. Carter.
Mr. Carter is the third band director Cane Bay has had in four years. He is a South Carolina graduate, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has worked with many directors and composed for various ensembles. His hard work has paid off, and it is evident that his band respects him.
“He definitely knows what he is doing, he definitely is motivated…he has a great work ethic” Allison Chubb 11th grade. Mr. Carter explains that his previous successful experiences keep him driven. Every day he tells his band students he wants their “personal best” “His positive attitude rubs off” Jeremy Glover 11th grade.
Mr. Carter appreciates all the time and energy his musical mentors have in invested in him, and he does the same for his students. “He pushes us and tells us and tells us we are better than what we are” Courtney Watson 12th grade. The hard work he and his band have put in is truly important, because when it comes to competition, every 1/10 of a point counts.
