“Diaper Dandy”- a phrase coined by NCAA basketball analyst Dick Vitale, meaning an outstanding rookie who plays with the poise of a seasoned veteran.

Allow me to introduce freshman guard Christine Weithman, sporting the leak-protected Huggies Supreme.

Weithman has emerged as an elite scorer and defender, starting on a talented Lady Bengals squad alongside four seniors. She says, “I started playing really well in the games and I was working really hard in practice. I guess I just work really well with the team.”

She turned heads in the fourth game of the season, torching the Walter Johnson Lady Wildcats for a season high 25 points off the bench in the 72-43 victory. After numerous impressive performances, coach Patty Langworthy began starting the freshman. “Christine is a great addition to Blake basketball,” adds coach Langworthy. “She can shoot, pass and play defense.”

As a newcomer to the team, Weithman was sure to find an appropriate role on the team. She says, “The seniors do a good job leading and I kind of let them. They know a lot about basketball.”

“Christine leads by example,” adds coach Langworthy.

Her incredible raw talent and enormous work ethic make for a dangerous combination. Weithman often stays in the gym long after practice, constantly looking to improve her game. Says senior captain forward Taylor Tomczyszyn, “She definitely has the most drive on the team.”

Even though she is often the youngest player on the floor, Weithman has shown no signs of nervousness. “She never gets intimidated,” adds Tomczyszyn. “Most ninth graders...would shy away from pressure, but Christine is the opposite.” Though inexperienced in high school basketball, Weithman knows the game better than most players in the county. She has been playing against her older brothers since kindergarten and competed against top players in an AAU league for many years.

As for a basketball career after Blake, Weithman has expressed an interest in playing for a top Division I program. According to her coach, this dream is not too farfetched. “I definitely see her as a Division I prospect in the future,” says coach Langworthy.

Someone better warn Dicky V about the wet one coming his way, baby.
