February might be the shortest month of the year, but please don’t let its brevity fool you; February is filled with fun.

Many people associate February with President’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate the men who forever changed our country…and when we happen to get off of school. But there are several other national holidays that deserve the same recognition and, naturally, a day off.

On February 28, remember, “Only you can prevent forest fires.” It’s Smokey the Bear’s birthday. February 26, get out your Levi’s and remember that the man whose pants you’re wearing was born today. February 23 happens to be one of my favorite days, as it celebrates a beloved yet often overlooked baked good: banana bread. But while you’re enjoying your little slice of heaven, don’t leave your canine friend out of the fun; it also happens to be National Dog Biscuit Day.

February 18 will be a somber day this year: a day of mourning, if you will. It’s the day the former planet Pluto was discovered. RIP Pluto. February 16 happens to be National Almond Day. Okay, I can’t help myself on this one: go nuts on the 16th.

We all know what the 14th of February is. It’s a day filled with love and care - National Read to Your Child Day. So curl up with your parents and enjoy a great book together! February 11 is a day for all you whiners and complainers out there: Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day. So you didn’t take that darn Algebra HSA and you’re not going to graduate in June. Eh, don’t sweat it.

Tomorrow celebrates two things that, personally, I think we could do without: school and rain. Grab your umbrella for National Umbrella Day, but don’t concern yourself with that whole National School Day thing, because, ironically, it’s a Saturday. Kick off all the February holiday fun today by celebrating Bagel and Lox Day. All biases aside, it’s probably the best day of the year.
