More Trouble Getting Around School
A few months ago, I wrote a story about handicap accessibility on the Clear Creek campus and the difficulties a person like me faces everyday. The story received countless amounts of praise and attention from all over. I was so overjoyed because people were finally going to see how hard it was for someone like me and something was at last going to be done.

That was six months ago and Clear Creek High School to this day has still not lived up to their expectations.

Why or how is it possible for a school or administration to almost what feels like completely ignore you or look the other way when an issue or problem comes up, especially when its something of this magnitude? After all, isn’t that what we’ve been taught in schools our whole life, that you can talk to anyone anytime, about anything, that they will do their best to help you?

It infuriates me, especially in this stage of school life to try and do just that, to try and get something done and my cries not be heard.

It hurts me to say I feel this way about Creek because I like this school and many of its students and facility and although a few things like locks have been put here or there on the bathrooms, there are still several problems here that are not being addressed and even though I’ve had a few people try and fix these problems, its not enough, its too little and time won’t allow it.

Times change so fast now that it is no longer possible to let things like this go unattended for that long. Right now in 2004 there may be only a few like me on campus but in five, ten years who knows. You can’t let something like this go forever.

This campus is 50 plus years old and I know it was never designed for the handicapped, but laws say you must accommodate the disabled. I’ve had so many people who visit this school ask me these kinds of things all the time and I don’t know if Creek knows it or not but I wish I didn’t have to say to them “I don’t know?” all the time. This school, like so many other places I’ve seen does not have many of the things it should and to make things worse, after the new school is built, this school will still be used as a school, disabled students are still going to be here. Something must be done.

I was never even able in all my 4 years here to go to one single football game because the stadium, although it has a ramp, was not very accessible to me. I had to sit sideways in the aisle to watch the pep rally one year.

Please don’t deprive someone in the future of the same thing.
