Students look for places where they belong. They go in search of places in school where they can express themselves. Some students join clubs that have activities they enjoy.
The Green Peeps, which is the name for the Eco Club, is one of those clubs. The Green Peeps, which was previously run by math and science teacher, Cristina Solis, is a club that focuses on the cleanliness of the school and its garbage. It’s not just that though, sometimes they decorate certain boxes that they then send out to classes.
“We make boxes and color them and then go around and put them in classes so they can recycle,” 7th grader Lillian Camcho said, who happens to be the Recycling President.
Recently Solis left ASGL due to personal reasons. Does this mean that the students, who were a part of it, will remember the Eco Club?
The members will remember the Eco Club "because we displayed our projects on the shelves,” 6th grader Kevin Sanchez said.
The Green Peeps may be gone but its members certainly will not forget it. Some may wonder how the school will change now that the Green Peeps are gone. Some students say that it will change badly.
“Our hallways will be dirty with wrappers and trash,” Sanchez said.
The Green Peeps helped remind students that they are responsible for the school. They make sure that it stays clean enough to stay alive for many years to come. The Green Peeps helped remind the school of ASGL of the cleanliness of the school and of the earth.
“Mr. Hoffman, our awesome middle school science teacher, will be taking over the reigns as the new Green Peeps advisor,” Solis said. “He will continue to build our club into something even bigger and stronger. I’m so proud of everything Green Peeps stands for and for the proactive position they’ve taken up in the school. Thanks for a great first semester!”
