Senior Jared Peace bends over to get into his bottom locker. - Kaylee Moore

Privileges, like respect, are earned not given. To Corbin High School seniors two of the privileges they have always had have been a senior parking spot for having good attendance, and a top locker.
But to this year’s senior class, those privileges, for the most part, have been revoked.
The layout in the new wing of the high school has senior lockers on the top floor, and junior lockers on the bottom floor. This situation has dumbfounded some people, because some juniors, for the first time, have top lockers and some seniors have bottom lockers. Also some seniors ended up with lockers in the old junior/senior locker section of the school.
“With the new lockers, why not give seniors the tops on both floors, and give juniors the bottoms on both floors” said senior Hailee Lewis.
Regardless of the layout, seniors are not happy about this. It’s something they feel they have worked all of their high school years for, and some are rather distraught by the circumstances.
“I feel depressed, violated, and rather upset by the fact that I don’t have a top locker,” said senior Matt Manning.
The situation with senior parking is the same and some seniors have attempted to voice their opinions on the situation.
“Some students don’t miss a single day of school all through high school so they’ll have the privilege of senior parking, and that was all a waste,” said senior Sydney Freeman.
And some seniors who take an EKU Now class at the Corbin campus have an unfair disadvantage, because their schedule put the class in the morning, so they come to school later in the day, and they have no top parking spots and have to park far away from the school.
Principal John Faulconer has addressed some of the issues.

On senior parking he said  “at the start of the year we did not have a set number of student drivers, nor did we know logistically where everyone was going to be able to park…It is our plan to be able to provide some attendance incentive parking spaces after winter break.”

On top lockers he said “we decided that our senior class should have lockers to their selves in the new wing. We wanted seniors to feel like they were given new lockers in the new section with the new bathrooms…Unfortunately that causes some of them to have bottom lockers.”

What a great story Mr. Nash. You are right, I, as a senior of this elustrious learning institution have been rather angry about the stripping of my senior privlieges. Way to go! Keep it up!
