MAPCA supports all art forms. - google

MAPCA, the new set of arts classes at Corbin High, had its first showcase May 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Students in each section of MAPCA were required to perform at least one piece in front of the audience. Theatre, band and choir students each performed various skits, monologues, solos, and ensembles.
Theatre MAPCA members performed scenes from Harvey, as well as monologues of their selection. For example, junior Martin Jones performed “I’m not that smart” from The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Many music MAPCA students chose to sing solos to show off their vocals. Sophomore Myranda Thomas sang “What I did for love” from A Chorus Line. “I’ve always been afraid to sing alone so I wanted to conquer my fear”, said Thomas. Sophomore Cassie Couch also decided to perform solo, singing “In His Eyes” from Jekyll and Hyde.

Instrumental MAPCA pupils also decided to go solo for most performances. Sophomore Allie Anderson performed a flute piece; junior Shelby Champlin performed a piece on euphonium, and, of course, senior Daniel Upchurch played his saxophone. The percussion also played an ensemble.
Some students participated in multiple categories. Daniel Upchurch performed in a saxophone ensemble as well as sang a solo from Les Miserables. Martin Jones also participated in a scene from Harvey, as well as a scene from a musical.
As can be seen, the showcase not only effectively presented the talent of arts students, but encouraged less experienced performers to break out of their shell and shine.
