On Jan. 25, the Carlisle girls’ basketball team took on the Central Dauphin East Panthers. Although the Herd already had a record of 10-5, this game was one to be taken seriously.
“We really needed to come back and beat them because we hadn’t played our best when we [played CD East] there,” said sophomore Jordan Heritage. Heritage feels this win was important because “it will prepare us for the rest of the season and will keep us as a competitor in the league.”
The Lady Herd started their game out strong and only got stronger as it continued. There was not a moment when someone wasn’t working hard; every girl played with intensity and the game was dominated by their defensive skills.
“The team came to play,” said sophomore and varsity player Tiffany Bauer.
The Panthers put up a man-to-man defense, but the Herd overcame the challenges presented to them. As always, they worked efficiently as a team and after countless passes, the girls were up 24-16 at halftime.
Many of the points and assists were made by senior Sabina Mehmedovic; senior Sarah Mogill’s nearly flawless free throws also contributed to the score. After an intense fight, the Herd won the game 51-43.
“It was one of our best games...it helped get us back together,” said Bauer. “[We’re now hoping to] get into the top ten ranking for districts.”
This game brought the girls’ record to an impressive 11-6 and now they are looking ahead to districts.
