Medal of Honor Face-Off
By Rafael Calzada
I think having the Taliban in Medal of Honor, the new game by developers EA and DICE, is a creative choice. The game takes place in modern day Afghanistan and follows the troops of Tier 1 and the U.S. Rangers. Multiplayer has two sides to play as: the U.S. Rangers and the Taliban now called “Opposing Force.” Maybe it could be too soon to include the Taliban, I don’t see it as a serious problem. This is similar to the Grand Theft Auto discussions, in that this isn’t a simulation. This game is rated M for Mature for a reason, in that it is intended for mature audiences. The game is brutally authentic and displays war as a horrible conflict, the way it should be displayed.
This game is in no way a simulation for modern combat. The multiplayer is just like any other multiplayer shooter, in that it is just skirmishes. At the end of the campaign, the game developers put in a statement about how they are honoring the fallen heroes and current men and women overseas. The developers, in no way, try to insult or disrespect our troops.

I think that it is much too soon for “the Taliban” to be added into a game. There are lots of fresh wounds when dealing with the Taliban. I think that EA should have waited for another few years until this terrorist ordeal cools down even more. I am sure that if stuff like this was available during world war two, that if Germans were in a video game and it was released here, that it would be offensive just like how it is today. There are lots of families that have been influenced by deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq. As awkward as it seems to be named “Opposing Force”, they made the right decision, because like I said before, it is too soon to have a game that invovlves the Taliban.
