This year, the middle school got a new surveillance system to keep the school safe. It is a very high tech system that has sixteen different cameras. They are being put in spots all over the campus, some spots are the same and some are different. This surveillance system includes two big screens to view the live feed and recordings. Mrs. Patterson can also use her cell phone to check and see what’s going on.

Mrs. Patterson said her biggest intention when she decided to get this new system was the “protection and safety for our students.” We asked her how she thought it would help. She said, “Well I only have two eyes. The video cameras system has sixteen cameras that can be viewed. I can even access the security system on my phone or any computer while I’m away from school.” Finally, we asked her what was the best thing about the new system. She said, “up to date technology that will allow for increased security measures.”

To get a different opinion we asked a few students about the system and how they felt. Some people didn’t care, but a few were a little worried.  Alex Kemp said, “I don’t care because I don’t worry about what they see.” Canyon Cheek said, “I guess it is more protection for the children, so I like it.” Seth Yeary said, “I feel like I’m going to be watched all the time, or stalked I guess you could say.” Students should remember that these are not being put up to catch people doing one little thing wrong every day. They are being put up in case something happens, and the administration can figure out the whole story and provide better protection for our students.
