Head coach Todd Niemann and his spring track team are more than happy to announce Upper Perk’s decision to host the 2006 Pac-10 Championship meet on May 12-13. After taking the girls’ Pac-10 title last year, the team is even more excited about this year’s meet.

The meet, which was held at Pottstown last year, was supposed to take place at Perk Valley this year. Due to construction at Perk Valley’s high school, the meet was turned over to Phoenixville. Upper Perk was asked to host it when Phoenixville’s Relay for Life was scheduled for the same weekend.

Niemann knows that hosting both the middle school and high school Pac-10 meets will be hard work; however, he’s up to the challenge with such a promising team.

“We have basically the same team as last year, minus Kate Mullen, Chelsea Marshall, and Trina Boyer,” Niemann said.

“The goal is to get to the championship with a chance to win. The league this year is going to be incredibly competitive. I’m hoping for home track advantage.”

Niemann expects a lot from both the boys’ and girls’ teams this year. He is counting on his returning runners, as well as several promising freshmen, to lead the team to another chance at the title. He hopes Upper Perk’s fans will make the meet even more rousing with their support; this is the first time a high school track Pac-10 Championship meet will be held at Upper Perk.

“I think having it here is going to be extra incentive,” Niemann says eagerly.
