The Journalism/Mass Media class has been preparing for the first issue of their writing careers to be featured in a newspaper. Mr. Ernest Quatrani, the instructor of the class, has been assigning work in various aspects of journalism that should better prepare his students for the writing world. During this time, the students are expected to create and illustrate stories in news, feature, and editorial formats. In a typical class period students can be expected to research an issue, create a rough draft and then finalize it to be graded. A surprising amount of writing goes into this class, but the students enjoy it and the final result gives the writer a sense of accomplishment

Besides journalism, Mr. Quatrani teaches about media events, television, filmmaking and advertising. The current primary focus is the Islamic cartoon controversy, and how the media can affect society.

Mr. Quatrani sets up his class in a way that allows the students to work at their own pace. In order to become informed of the world situations, he assigns packets of work that must be read, interpreted and written about. In a journalism class this method of teaching has been very beneficial and informative, which is the goal of this course.
