The Upper Perkiomen High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are starting a business of their own at the high school. FBLA opened a coffee shop for the students in the school store. Starting at 7 a.m., the cabinet members of FBLA, Devyn Kerr, Angela Montalvo, Jeff Greco, and Kevin Weeks, will be selling Dunkin Donuts coffee for $1. The mainly student-run shop will be opened as a trial run until finals start on June 5th. Mr. John Williamson, teacher at Upper Perkiomen High School and FBLA club advisor, said the idea of the shop this year is to get a taste of what the students want from the coffee shop. “It will be as good as people want to make it,” he said. Next school year, FBLA hopes to sell a wider variety of coffee, hot chocolate, etc. “If it goes well, we’ll definitely expand it and make it a bigger thing,” Williamson said. Ultimately, FBLA would like to add stools to the counter, play music, and transform the school store into a legitimate coffee shop. The shop will be completely funded by FBLA and profits will go towards the club as a unique fundraiser. Mr. Williamson speaks about FBLA’s goal for the coffee shop as being a nice amenity, but also something practical. “I want it to be something that’s useful,” he said. “That’s the idea: To make it something to do and a place where people will want to go in the morning.”
