Aiming to help endangered animals, the new club, Save the Species was formed this year at the Upper Perkiomen High School.
The new club was established by Zena Hance, an Upper Perk junior with aspirations of starting an environmentally friendly club to both educate and help those who want to improve the environment.
“Teenagers are in the dark about that kind of stuff,” Hance stated.
The primary focus of this club is to fundraise in order to efficiently “save the species.” So far this year, bracelets have been sold sporting the slogan, “Save our furry friends.”
Early in January the club also ran a T-shirt sale to bring in more profits.
Despite having just formed, the Save the Species club has big plans for the future. Upcoming plans include hopefully hosting a dance to raise money for endangered animals, and adopting an animal at the Philadelphia Zoo.
All proceeds this club raises will go to multiple organizations that focus on aiding endangered animals.
Although this club has a big message, Save the Species is still relatively small, with only nine members. If you would like to join this club and “Save the Species”, meetings are usually held on either Wednesdays or Thursdays after school in Mr. Coffey’s room.
