The Business and Education Alliance hosted the annual November Breakfast Meeting.
Ms. Dina Corata, the person in charge of setting up the meeting, explained the purpose of the event. “It’s basically a business and education alliance breakfast that is put on by the business and community, which is to bring in both the business and education together in a cooperative effort to work together so we can better know each other and help the kids give back into the community.”
Since the Upper Perkiomen School District is a main sponsor for this event, a few UPSD programs were present. One of these programs was the high school’s Uptones directed by Dr. Mark Thomas. They opened the meeting with the Star Spangled Banner and two other pieces.
Another UPSD program that was involved was the Western Center for Technical Studies. Students enrolled in Culinary Arts served a wonderful omelet breakfast to all that were present. This gave the students a first hand experience serving a large crowd.
Tim Ditondo, a culinary arts student, said, “It was definitely good, and it was all smooth. Everyone got done that needed to. We went through 70 people really good and everyone on the line did what they needed to get done.”
Ms. Corata explained her organization’s rationale for involving the WCTS: “We use the vo-tech center kids to make us flower setting and cook; we have them do everything so that it shows our faith in them.”
After the people finished their breakfast, special guest speaker Ms. Becky Supplee talked about a program she’s trying to gain support for. The program focuses on getting rid of substance abuse and making the community stronger. Supplee made a brief introduction of her program and for more information you can contact the Family Resource Network.
“We can’t change the world, but we can change the community,” said Luanne B. Stauffer of the Chamber of Commerce.
