Musical theatre classes, taught by Mr. Knecht and Mr. Thomas, recently traveled to Media Theatre to see the musical Aida. Aida is a classical love story that was rewritten to feature music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Aida is a love story about a Nubian princess, Aida, who was captured by an Egyptian captain, Radames, and his crew. Shortly after being brought back to Egypt, Aida and Radames fall in love with each other, and, because of this, Radames saves Aida from a hard life of slave labor. Instead, she is assigned to be a handmaiden for his beautiful future wife, Amneris. Through many hardships and conflicts, Aida and Radames love is finally found out. Not surprisingly, Egypt and the Pharaoh are outraged. In the end, the two forbidden lovers are buried alive together at the request of Amneris.

Overall, this musical was amazing. The singing and dancing was unique and very creative. Michael Delegot, a returning Media Theatre actor, played Radames amazingly. He had a great voice and connected very well with Aida. The play was enjoyable and kept everyone’s attention during the 22 scenes.
