The Law softball team is looking to continue its winning ways and have another great season.

The Lady Eagles had a phenomenal season last year, making it to the Class L quarterfinals before finally losing to Brien McMahon.

“We had a great year last year, and we are starting out this year right where we left off last year,” Coach Paolini said.

One thing the team has to deal with is the loss of senior captain Brittney Allsop.

Allsop was the shortstop and team leader last year. Allsop led the team in team batting average and runs batted in. Allsop was also elected first team all-state in 2005.

“Brittney was an awesome leader and I loved playing with her,” junior captain Kristen H said. “She always kept everyone up and always had tons of pride.”

The team was 15-8 last year, finishing in the top 20 in the state.

“We have our minds set on making a state finals appearance,” Paolini said. “We definitely have the talent to get there, we just need to work hard.”

This year’s captains will be senior Vanessa R and senior Melissa D.

Some key players in the infield are Hunt at third, senior Wendy R, Lindsay U, sophomore Jess A behind the dish and Sam H on the mound.

Sam H showed she meant business last year after replacing an injured but talented Kelly Mullins and earning All-SCC honors.

“We are a very experienced team this year. I think every player on this team has at least three years’ varsity experience except for Jess because she’s only a sophomore, but even she started in her freshman year,” Sam H said.

They start off playing Cheshire on Wednesday April 5, then play again that Friday against Sacred Heart.

The Lady Eagles play against Foran on April 12 at home.

“It should be a good year and I can’t wait to beat Foran and show them who’s best,” Vanessa R said.
