Jonathan Law’s wrestling team is wrapping up another successful season.

Their final record was 27-4 and 2-3 in the SCC Large Division. With the fierce competition, the team worked extremely hard all season to maintain their impressive record.

"Each practice is hard working and consistent; we strive to get better every day so our record can reflect on how hard we work," senior captain Ted Kostopoulos said. "Our coaches expect a lot out of us and set the bar high because they expect nothing less than greatness."

The second half of their season was difficult for the team due to the eight snow days and early dismals Jonathan Law has had.

"Over a three week stretch we only practiced 3-4 times yet competed in 15 dual meets," head coach Mr. Schoonamaker said. "There was a noticeable drop off in our ability to execute and it was extremely difficult to keep the athletes focused and maintain their diets and conditioning." Practices at the end of the season have been tough but are becoming a little lighter than the beginning of the season.

"We are continuing to polish all phases such as neutral along with both top and bottom positions," Schoonamaker said. Several members of the varsity team qualified for the Class M state tournament and were seeded by their overall season record as well as any accomplishments earned throughout the season. The top 6 finishers qualified for the State Open where the top four will wrestle.

In all, four Law wrestlers qualified for State Opens - Kostopoulos, Ryan Bannon, Brian Manes, and Sam Grace. Stephon Davis is an alternate.

"In order to qualify for the State Open hard work and dedication must go above and beyond practice," senior co- captain Sam Grace said." "In the off season training is essential to be good during the season." Kostopoulos (215 lbs.) finished 38-3 on the season and now has 115 career wins, Davis (171 lbs.) went 33-4, Grace (145 lbs.) went 37-6 and Bannon (125 lbs.) went 31-8. Others who performed well Joey Bannon (130), along with seniors Tyler Baker (135, 16-5), Tyler Marchetti (140, 27-8), and Daniel Iovino-Ortiz (285) 33-7.

Seniors that will not be returning to the team are Kostopoulos, Grace, Daniel Iovino-Ortiz, Marchetti, Davis, and Baker.

"All of these seniors will be missed greatly next year, Bannon said." They were an attribute to the team and demonstrated what hard work and dedication to wrestling."
