Now that the mastermind behind
Apple’s success has passed
away, many wonder the fate
of the company’s new product
lineup.
On Oct. 8, Apple’s new
CEO, Tim Cook, announced
the revisions to the iPhone and
iPod lineup at the company’s
Let’s Talk iPhone event.
Apple did an overhaul to
the iOS software. iOS5 is a
new update to all iPod touches,
iPhones, and iPads.
“It’s about time Apple joined
the main-stream digital world,”
says teacher Keven Badalamente.
The features included with
this update makes Apple products
more innovative, powerful,
and fun to use.
After announcing the iPods,
they announced a new iPhone,
the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 4S has the same
form factor as the prior model
but includes many new features.
The 4S comes in 16GB,
32GB, and 64GB sizes in either
black or white.
One new upgrade of the 4S
is that it is available on Sprint as
well as AT&T and Verizon.
Near the end of Cook’s announcement,
there was one last
thing: Siri.
Siri is a beta voice recognition
program exclusive to the
iPhone 4S. It allows the user
to talk to their iPhone as if it is
a real person that understands
what said person is saying.
Siri can be used to do
mundane tasks such as sending
a text message or telling you
the weather;
but, Siri’s most
intuitive features
are setting
schedules and
reminders and
keeping track of
a busy lifestyle.
“I like Siri
because it gives
me directions
easily while I drive,” says Steven
Johnson ‘13.
Many students have already
purchased the iPhone 4S.
Dakota Blodgett ‘14 pre-ordered
his iPhone a week before
release.
“I pre-ordered because my
iPhone 3GS was becoming a
prehistoric dinosaur and I was
ready to be able to talk to my
phone like the cool kid I am.”
said Blodgett.
Within the first 24 hours of
pre-sale, Apple sold over onemillion
iPhone 4S’s.
The day after these big releases
were announced,
Apple co-founder and
former CEO Steve Jobs
passed away from his
struggles with pancreatic
cancer.
Jobs returned to Apple
in 1996 and ended
up saving the company from
bankruptcy with his cuttingedge
ideas such as the iPod in
2001, the iPhone in 2007, and
the iPad in 2010.
Such innovations allowed
Apple to become the most
valuable company in the world
earlier this year, as well as an influential
one in the past decade.
