This track season of 2011-2012 went extremely well. Many athletes showed improvement. Four athletes went to Masters, two tied for ninth, Justin Woo in the pole vault and Taylor Juarez in the high jump. Katrina Bruder, junior, was another who went to Masters.

Kaitlin Mizuno and Nathan Arena both competed in the pole vault as well, but didn’t place. Mizuno and Juarez are both juniors, while Arena is a sophomore.

“We are really excited to have such outstanding performers coming back next year,” Coach Jay Fishburn said.

Bruder, although, who did not move on past masters is another promising athlete. She had a personal record in discus and shot put. She wishes to break the varsity girls’ shot put Tracy High School record. She will also be a returning athlete to next year’s track team.

“It was really fun to go and compete in a more competitive atmosphere,” Bruder said.

Devin Foster was the SJAA champion in the frosh-soph boys’ pole vault. This year’s team was really young so it has more years to continue with a lot of talent.

Woo, who is going to vault at Chico State next year, was a lot of fun to coach, according to Fishburn. Tracy’s varsity boys’ team was 2-3 and the varsity girls’ team was 1-4 in league.

“We were a really young team and have a lot of promise for the future,” Fishburn said. “Mizuno and Juarez, along with Arena, stepped up when it mattered and are all coming back.”
