As the 2010-2011 school year at Poston Butte comes to a close, the next Bronco football season begins. It doesn't start in the high school stadium where our Broncos battle opposing teams for victory. Broncos don't start out on the practice field in full pads where they practice tearing their teammates apart. The 2011 Bronco football season begins in the spring where a group of young players without equipment come and prepare for the season. They learn to run routes, how to catch better, how to throw accurately, how to block, they build strength and endurance, start to learn routes, and begin to move together as a team.
Then during the summer, members of the team gather together and lift weights, learn their positions on the team, and prepare for the season. As the summer comes to a close, the entire team travels to football camp where they become a team, form a brotherhood, perfect their plays, and learn to win as a team. It is then and only then that the team of young football players can play in the high school stadiums and fight for their school.
With the spring football session beginning soon, we will now take this chance to interview Coach DeLaTorre.

Q: How many people do you expect to come out to spring football?
A: This session, I expect to see around 80-100 boys coming out to play.

Q: What is the greatest advantage that spring football gives the team?
A: It starts our season better than anything else, it gives us a fresh start and plenty of time to get ready for the upcoming season.

Q: If any, does spring football have any disadvantages?
A: The biggest disadvantage is that it can be very hard to get kids there, and the practices are also shorter.

Q: How much of an advantage does attending spring football give an athlete, over just starting at the beginning of the season?
A: It gives the player a huge advantage, because he has more knowledge of our schemes, team structure and [time to] workout. It also helps players learn teamwork with his fellow players.

Q: What are your expectations of the football team this year?
A: I want to get a lot more kids playing, and I expect to see more competition among the players for positions.

Q: Are there any players you expect to really come out this season?
A: I really think that the senior and junior group will really come out while playing on the same varsity team instead of being on separate teams.

Q: What do you plan to accomplish during this session of spring football?
A: This spring session I plan to get the kids refocused, build a strong team who works together, and organization among the players.

Q: What would you like to see this team do this season?
A: I would love to go undefeated, but I want to go deep into playoffs this season, if we have a good record and go far, that is great.

Q: What are you most excited for this year?
A: First thing is the new schedule and competition we have for this season, and second is having a full range of students playing football.

Q: If you could give a message to the students and fans of the Poston Butte Broncos, what would that message be?
A: I want all of you to get excited for this great new season and then come show support for our players during the games.

Obviously, Coach DeLaTorre is very excited for this upcoming season. You Broncos should be excited for this great upcoming season, too. All of those of you who have a passion and love for football, come out and join the team. We are now heading into another great and exciting year. Go Broncos!
