Crysis 2 Review

On March 22 Crytek studios released Crysis 2; a first-person shooter video game. The game tries to be completely different from its predecessor while retaining the same great qualities as the first game. Making its debut on the home console system, Crysis 2 single handedly takes the crown as the most technically proficient and visualized video game to ever grace the likes of any gaming system.

The story is a typical Sci-fi adventure that takes place in the year 2023 in New York City.  The city has been ravaged with the outbreak of a deadly virus known as the “Manhattan Virus”, which causes a complete cellular breakdown. On top of fighting against the virus, the big apple is invaded by aliens. The players control the character Alcatraz, a soldier equipped with the Nano suit 2.0, which gives augmented abilities of speed, power, strength and camouflage; essentially making him a super solider. The players must help the US army stop the invasion as well as find a cure for the virus.

Unlike most shooter games whose main selling point is the multiplayer with a short and rushed up single player mode, Crysis 2 offers a single player mode. The mode will take the average player around 12-15 hours to beat. Plus, the game also offers a robust multiplayer mode which will surely keep the players engaged in the game for many months to come. “One cool thing about the story is it starts off really slow and half way through it becomes a non-stop roller coaster ride filled with amazing set pieces,” said David Tizon.

Of course the main selling point of the game is its amazing photorealistic visuals. The atmosphere and lighting in the game is quite top notch.  It feels as if you’re playing a live action movie rather than a video game. However, being the most advanced game also has some downfalls.  To play the game on a PC players are required to have incredibly expensive and powerful computers which sadly, not a lot of us own. “The game is a true work of art,” said Andrew Gomez. “Unless you play it for yourself it’s hard to explain how beautiful it looks,” added Gomez.

If you are looking for a game with incredible visuals, amazing single player modes and engaging multiplayer modes or if you just want to see the limits of your monster computer, Crysis 2 will not let you down.
