At the season’s beginning, fans had big hopes for the Green Bay Packers with their new defensive setup, new rookies, and their three preseason victories. However, the green and gold’s season is starting to go downhill as the team struggles to make the playoffs.
The team is currently 5-4, with wins against Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit, Cleveland, and recently Dallas. They lost against Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, and twice against the Pack’s biggest rival, Minnesota.
The Packers are doing okay offensively so far, with 1,073 rushing yards and 2,234 passing yards for a total of 3,307 yards. They have scored 249 points and a have a total of 186 first downs. However, the team has had some fumbles that were lost, and the quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been sacked an astonishing 41 times in just 9 games! Overall, the offense’s quarterback, runningback, and wide receivers are playing well, but the offensive line needs some serious work if the team is to have a successful season. The Packer’s also must stop the penalties, or they will see more losses.
The Packer’s defense is having a less than perfect season. They started the season in a 3-4 setup, in which they took away a defensive lineman and added a linebacker. Team Captain Aaron Kampman was moved from defensive end to outside linebacker. Defensively, the team has given up 777 rushing yards and 1,486 passing yards for a total of 2,263*. The Packer’s defense also has had 18 sacks and 13 interceptions so far in the season. Overall, the Pack’s defense is currently ranked 4th in the NFL, but they need to step up and get some more rushes from the defensive line, and stop the penalties.
Special Teams is another large factor in the Packer’s downfall. They need to block more punts, return the ball for more yards, and above all, make a stop on kick-off! The green and gold have given up way too many yards on kick-offs, but are doing well on field goals and extra points. Overall, they really need to work on special teams.
The Green Bay Packers, although starting the season with high expectations, have some things to work on if they are to have a successful season and make the playoffs. This past Sunday, the Pack took home a much needed win against Dallas, to currently have a winning record. Next week, the Packers play San Francisco at Lambeau Field. Despite the team’s recent performances, we can never lose faith in the green and gold. GO PACK GO!
