Sometimes when it’s cold, you just feel like staying inside all day, but you feel like you’ll be bored if you do. Keeping yourself occupied with a good holiday movie might keep you boredom at bay.
“My favorite is A Christmas Story. It’s seriously the best Christmas movie ever,” says freshman Kaylah Morgan.
A Christmas Story is one of the most watched holiday specials. This movie is about a boy in the ‘40s, who wants a Red Rider BB Gun for Christmas, and everyone he asks utters that famous phrase, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
“Every year I watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” says Nick Cleveland. This movie shows the change in heart of ‘The Grinch,’ and also that Christmas isn’t just about presents, it’s about being with people that you care about.
Miracle on 34th Street is another great holiday movie. This one is about a man, named Kris Kringle, who is institutionalized for telling everyone that he is Santa Claus. He is dealing with the struggle of everyone not believing in him, except one person who happens to be a lawyer. Throughout the story, he displays actions that make him seem to actually be Santa.
“I like watching Christmas movies. They make me think about Christmas, and I love Christmas,” says Courtney Connolly, a student at WHS.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town are other true classics. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer tells us a story about two ‘misfits,’ one a reindeer that has a glowing red nose and an elf that wants to be a dentist and doesn’t want to make toys. These two friends venture out to Misfit Island and encounter the Abominable Snowman. Santa Claus is Coming to Town is a story that explains why Santa brings toys to kids, why his reindeer fly, why he lives in the North Pole, why he stuffs stockings and why he comes down chimneys.
“I love watching holiday movies; I think they help bring out Christmas spirit,” says freshman Bryan Vroom.
No matter what your reason is for watching holiday movies, they’re great to watch and pass the time during this long winter break.
