On Thursday January 14, the Florence Johnson Grand Theatre
was overflowing with students, teachers, and outside visitors for the Martin
Luther King Assembly. The assembly was put together by San Diego SCPA’s
Associated Student Bodywith the help of many other participants. The Martin
Luther King Assembly has been a tradition of SCPA for a couple of years now and
each year it just gets better and better, and this year was no different.
The students of SCPA put on a spectacular show. Performances
included cultural and hip hop dances from the Pan Asian and Pacific Islander
Association (PAPIA), a remarkable slide show tribute created by senior Jasper
Blake, and deep and captivating movements
of the lovely ladies in the Four Women piece choreographed by Mrs.
Sandra Foster-King. The assembly was truly
something you had to see. Other stand out performances included a beautifully
sung song by the trio consisting of senior Megan Foranda, junior Montay Romero, and freshman Victoria Matthews which brought down the house. If that wasn’t enough
talent the assembly was nicely concluded to the powerful spoken word put on by
Production and Performance and the fun- loving and talented Choral Ensemble.
The Martin Luther King Jr. assembly was very impressive and
showed how we can all come together and make something extravagant which is
what Dr. King lived and died for.
