By beating Rutland in the state semi-finals Tuesday, the girls’ lacrosse team continued its post-season run and will play South Burlington for the Vermont state Division One championship Friday, June 8, in Castleton.

The title game will be the third meeting this season between Middlebury (15-2) and the Rebels (14-1). The teams split their first two games, each decided by a single goal. One went into double overtime.

Middlebury has one state title already this school year, in D-I field hockey. The football team made it to the D-I championship game before losing to Hartford.

In Tuesday’s 13-9 win at home, senior Brandi Whittemore scored 5 goals, including her 100th career goal and 47th of the season. Senior Chrissy Ritter (71 goals this year) scored four, sophomore Emily Robinson two, and freshmen Katie Holmes and Emily Kiernan one each.
