When someone hears the word pride, they might think about a pack of lions. To the Trinity community, however, pride means everything. From painting up at football games to making donations to the school, Trinity pride is evident everywhere.

Where does this pride come from? It is not given to you when you arrive at Trinity, nor do you suddenly receive pride when you graduate. You learn what pride is when make your way through Trinity. You discover how proud you are of your school when it wins three state football championships in a row or when the basketball team goes to the state tournament for the first time. You see pride when one of your Trinity brothers is lost and the school unites to grieve.

We, as students, also show our pride in less dramatic ways. Some of us use our art skills by decorating the halls with beautiful masterpieces. Others of us do our darndest in academics and go on to be Governor’s Scholars.

And some of us show our pride by CHEERING!There are the Friday nights at the football games, screaming our lungs out while our chests itch insanely due to the paint used for our glorious T.

I can remember back in my younger years when I was just a wee lad at my first Trinity-St X game. A senior at the time called me down to the front row to help cheer. It was truly an honor and something I will never forget. Cheering and pride go together, but not just at football games.

I know what you’re thinking: “But James, how can I, just one person, make a difference by cheering.”

I am going to let varsity basketball head coach Mike Szabo take that one: “Cheering is incredibly important. It increases the intensity of everybody involved.” Wow. That’s a lot of people.

Senior Josh Legleiter shows his pride by cheering at basketball games. “ Most of my friends are on the (basketball) team. I like to cheer them on.”Basketball season is on. It’s pride time.
