Marshall Mathers. Just the name itself draws shudders from organizations, politicians, T.V. stations, radio, etc. Mathers, better known as Slim Shady or Eminem, has created a public persona of controversy, madness, expletives and profanity-laced tirades.

His latest album, "Encore,” does not fail in any of these aspects. The public was introduced to this new album through the radio-friendly and highly addictive single "Just Lose It.” This single topped the charts for weeks and is still circulating through the radio airwaves and top-five charts.

However, the CD contains songs better and more profound than the humor-filled single "Just Lose It.”

The album starts in typical Shady fashion with "Evil Deeds.” It is a song panning his parental guidance while growing up by stating that he never had the chance to meet his father, which is why the evil deeds he has done now trace themselves back to his father.

The next song that catches people's attention is "Like Toy Soldiers.” This track, according to Mathers, is in response to the recent scenes of violence throughout the entire rap community, specifically the recent stabbing at the Vibe Awards.

The single "Mosh" violently takes shots at the war in Iraq, the efforts of President Bush, and the need for our country to rise together against the Bush administration. It was conveniently released several weeks before the recent presidential election.

After "Mosh,” Shady slows the beat down with one of my favorites on the album, "Spend Some Time," which features Obie Trice, Stat Quo, and 50 Cent. This track looks at girls who are in relationships simply for the fame, the money, the luxury, etc. Shady delivers a heartfelt chorus, talking of his past mistakes on this song.

The next song, "Mockingbird,” addresses the situation between Mathers and his daughter, Hailie Jade. Shady records a lullaby almost, telling her that no matter how hard times get, keep your head up.

The album concludes with the infectious "Encore," featuring Dr. Dre and 50 Cent. This club anthem, my favorite on the CD, combines an incredible beat with unique rhyming styles, with 50 Cent, Dre, and Eminem switching lines in midsentence.

Overall, the CD will probably become one of the all-time best selling rap albums and will continue to advance the hall of fame career of Slim Shady.
