Second semester. You have been accepted to your college. Spring break is close, and graduation is in sight. Senior slide sets in.
While your willingness to work decreases, the teachers seem to be trying to fight the apathy by increasing the amount of work. They pile papers, presentations and tests on you in hopes of keeping you working until the day you turn in your last final.
In reality, all the additional work does is make you feel overwhelmed, which makes you even less likely to complete all of the work you have been assigned.
This does not accomplish anything because it results in frustrated teachers, angry students and steadily falling grades.
While it is obviously important for seniors to keep up the academic tempo, it is also important for teachers to realize that the seniors should be given a chance to fully experience the end of their high school career.
Our parents, and I am sure you, did not select Trinity simply for academic reasons; you all recognized how important the friendships made over the four years of high school could be. As the end of our senior year approaches, it is now time to take full advantage of the feeling of brotherhood we have worked so hard to achieve. The clock is ticking, so make sure that you try to take full advantage of the people around you.
These last two months offer you your final chance to get to know your classmates. These are some of the last times we will be assembled as a full class, so take advantage of it. Education is about more than learning in the classroom, so make sure you make use of the time you have left.
