“It was a very demanding role to play,” said senior Chad Zimlich, who portrayed the title character in the Department of Theatre Arts’ fall production of “Prometheus Bound.”

“Prometheus Bound” is an Ancient Greek play by Aeschylus. The play centers around the protagonist, Prometheus, as he suffers the consequences of giving mortals the gift of fire. Prometheus recites epic monologues about how he longs to be free from his punishment throughout the play, but they are all in vain; he remains chained to a rock. Prometheus is literally bound the entire time.

Mr. William P. Bradford II was at the helm of the show, serving as artistic director.

The ancient tragedy challenged audience members to view theater in a different way.

“In tragedy the greater truth is found. Moral questions are placed before the audience,” Bradford said.

Senior Johnny Booker said, “I didn’t like it very much; it was too one-dimensional, just a dude standing up there whining the whole time. It was produced extremely well and the acting was good, but I didn’t like the plot or the theme of it.”

Trinity teacher and producer Mrs. Kate Nitzken said, “I think some students were confused by the Greekness of it. All in all, it was a big success. Even those who were confused came out with a better understanding of what Greek theatre is all about.”
