With the tennis season approaching, preparations are being made to ensure a successful year. When the weather permits, the team meets at Erickson to practice.
To warm up, they run three laps and practice hitting. The purpose of practice is to see who will be playing in the matches. The players challenge each other and compete for the six spots in the top seats. Those players in the top seats are guaranteed to play in the upcoming match.
Because they won the OVAC championship last year, the team has a reputation to maintain. Freshman Regan Hanlon trains throughout the year by participating in lessons and clinics. “I think I will have a good season because everyone on the team is really nice, and I think I’ll get to play a lot,” Hanlon said.
The upperclassmen are also looking forward to having new members on the team. “I plan on trying to help the ninth graders to make sure they’re having fun and are not left out,” junior Mikayla Bennett said.
The first match will be on March 19 against Huntington High. “I’m kind of nervous about it because it will be my first match on a high school team,” Hanlon said. With the team’s dedication and enthusiasm, they will try their best to bring home the OVAC championship once again.
