When Clay Jensen arrives home from school one day, he is excited to find a small box addressed to him, but with no return address. Inside the box he finds seven cassette tapes; each side is numbered 1-13.  Confused, Clay puts in the first tape. He is overwhelmed when he hears Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush, who committed suicide two weeks earlier. 

   Clay is stunned to hear Hannah’s voice, and even more confused when she explains the tapes. She says there are 13 reasons why she killed herself, and if someone received the tapes, they were involved. Clay, not knowing what he could have done to Hannah, feels awful. He listens in agony and suspense as he waits to hear Hannah say his name through the speakers and explain his part in her death.

    “Thirteen Reasons Why" is a deep and thought provoking book. Jay Asher does an amazing job of weaving Hannah’s and Clay’s stories together. It’s a great book for young adults who enjoy a realistic story involving a seemingly hopeless romance.
