South and PHS River City Runners and Walkers Clubs are competing to win the traveling trophy; Williamstown was also invited. Each member of the club will keep track of (the miles they ran and walk each day). By the end of the school year, members’ miles will be added to a club total and the school with the most miles will receive the trophy. “RCRWC will have an end of the year party for handing out the trophy,” organizer Sergeant John Gersper said.
The club meets every Wednesday after school to have meetings about upcoming events and what they have planned. They also set up courses to run and walk after their meetings. “I think they are difficult, but in a good way, because we try to mix it up a bit by switching between uphill and downhill runs,” senior Cody Paxton said.
They plan on doing other local runs and walks like the Relay for Life. Paxton said he plans on attending this event because it helps show support for the fight against cancer.
They are still encouraging students, faculty and family members to join. There is no commitment in joining. “If you just want to get in shape for summer or want to get into a club for helping others or yourself, you should join,” Gersper said.
