Costumed workers chased patrons through both parks. - Brayan Cecenas

The month of October brings chills down the spines of those who choose to partake in the exhilarating Halloween events the month brings. Two of these spooky events take place at Universal Studios’ Horror Nights and Knotts’ Scary Farm, but neither of them can compare to Six Flags’ Fright Fest.
At Six Flag’s Fright Fest, ghouls and goblins roamed the park, scaring everyone in sight, and the haunted mazes were very creepy due to the special effects.
The roller coasters were exhilarating to say the least, with their giant loops, steep drops and sharp turns.
Fright Fest was enjoyable, but the down side was that it was too crowded, causing the wait for rides to be extra long. Some rides even had almost two-hour waits. Another frustrating aspect of the event was that everything, whether it was the food, mazes, games or toys, was overpriced.
Besides the downfalls, the event overall was fantastic. There were Scare Zones all over the park, which made it petrifying to walk around.
Clowns and goblins chased teenagers and parents around, making it hard for people to sit down and relax because they always had to look over their shoulders for danger.
A word of advice to those who plan on attending this event: Go with friends! Trust us, you’re going to need them in case you get scared. Try to arrive early because the lines for rides and mazes get really long once it gets dark. You should also eat before you leave because the food is overpriced.
Once you are there, make sure to go through all of the mazes because they are all very entertaining and frightening. Each maze has its own uniquely frightening theme, so you will never get bored. The newest maze, Bite II, features zombies and blood.
We do recommend, though, that you do not go on any of water rides because it tends to get really cold at night.
An experience like this can cost you anywhere between $20 and $60, but if you have a Six Flags Season Pass, you can use it and receive free admission. Discounted tickets are also available online on the Six Flags website. An additional $5 will be charged for the mazes, which you’ll receive a wristband for, giving you complete access to all seven mazes.
We hope you enjoy your time at Six Flags Fright Fest.
On the other side of town, another event is taking place. Dim lighting and smoke so thick that you could barely see where you were going, the sudden sound of chainsaws that struck terror in your heart, which started to pound when you saw the sign that read Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.
As I walked through the crowd of people that had no clue what to expect, I headed to the Terror Tram, a short ride around the block that makes you sleepy because there was nothing to see or do, until we made a stop that was clearly planned to strike fear in your eyes. In front of me were 10 guys with chainsaws standing in front ready to attack. Once I got through them, I saw Chucky and I heard some lady in front of me say, “Aw, look! It’s Chucky,” and Chucky suddenly swung a plastic knife and groaned loudly.
As I resumed walking through the dirt path I thought in my head, “Wouldn’t it be great if someone got in the bushes and popped out to scare people?” Well, my wish came true. There was a guy in the bushes waiting for the perfect time to jump.
The scenery was the same as last year and the people were hidden in the same spots. They need more monsters to walk around and scare people.
After the Terror Tram, we went to a maze called “Saw: Game On.” On the way to the maze we saw big guys with bats and chainsaws walking around and scaring mostly girls. They would walk and wait until they were distracted and turn the chainsaw behind them and rev it really loudly.
There were also people called Lunaticz, who were in some green costume that looked like a British army uniform with a really cool mask and makeup. They ran from place to place, popping up everywhere to scare people.
When we got to the “Saw” maze, the line was short so we got in fast. Inside it was dark and I got sprayed in the face with water. The maze was short and not that scary. It needed more blood and more people screaming for their lives. The mazes were scenes from all of the movies.
After a late dinner, we went to another maze called “Vampire: Castle Of The Undead.” The maze was really childish and had no connection to the title of the maze. The scenery was full of mummies and dead people in caskets, which made it very confusing to understand the theme or take the maze seriously.
After that maze we went to another called “Friday the 13th: Kill, Jason, Kill.” The wait for the maze was 80 minutes long. Inside, it was very interesting and reminded me of the old 80s horror movies.
There were plants and you could feel moisture almost as if you were in a forest and the hockey-mask-wearing Jason was hunting you. This maze had better spots where people could hide and scare you.
At the end of the maze when I thought it was over, Jason made his last attempt to kill everyone, but he missed his last shot and we left in one piece.
Tickets for Horror Nights are $59, and passes for multiple nights are available. Additionally, front of the line passes range from $99 to $109.
Go experience Horror Nights before it’s too late. You won’t regret it, and afterwards, you’ll be dying (literally) to see what Universal has in store for next Halloween.
Horror Nights is not recommended for children under 13. Also, masks and costumes are not allowed.
