“The dragon asked the sensei why this had happened; why had his wings stunted growth? Maybe the magic was lost…forever…”

This is a short example of a story a person could write about in Shores' new Writing Club, a club in which sophomore Brooke Martin is co-founder of.

“At the first meeting, most people wrote about zombies, dragons, and hipsters,” Martin said. “There’s not really like a set thing people have to write about. It’s whatever comes to your mind and you feel like expressing.”

The club will meet every other week on Wednesdays in adviser Michelle Brower’s room, 309. At meetings, members will share and write stories with peers who share their writing enthusiasm.

“It’s kind of a neat thing for students to be able to participate in,” Brower said. “Students can write and then can get feedback from other creative minds. I mean, how cool is that?”

Martin said she hopes to see students’ enthusiasm prosper with this club even after her graduation.

“This club gives students a chance to be creative and fun,” Martin said. “Hopefully more students will realize this and join so the club will never die.”

Co-founder and sophomore Hunter Zhao has high expectations for the future of the Writing Club.

“I hope a lot of people realize the importance of writing,” Zhao said. “Writing is a way for introverted people to express on paper what they can’t verbally. A club that lets people be themselves is sure to stick around for a while. This is the club’s beginning, and I’m hoping there won’t be an end.”
