“Hakuna Matata.”

What a wonderful phrase, and after a huge test Sept. 27, students from Jen Adams AP Biology class got to experience “no worries” by attending The Lion King in 3D at the Cinema Carousel.

Adams said she thought it would be fun to go to a movie that had to do with what was being studied in the classroom, including biomes, food chain, and the circle of life.

“We all have seen The Lion King, and it dealt with what we were doing,” Adams said. “I knew we weren’t going to learn anything new, but it was fun.”

This was not only the first field trip Adams has taken her AP students on.

“Back in 199-whatever, I took a class to see Gattica when it was at the movies, so this was our AP bio night at the movies,” Adams said.

Although the movie may not be totally accurate in describing the circle of life or the food chains, it shows an accurate picture of what the animal kingdom is like.

“I felt really smart because I was able to take what I learned in class and apply it to the movie,” senior Rudy Haiker said, “like secondary succession at the end and antagonistic behavior.”

Senior Rachel Miller said she didn’t learn anything from seeing the movie.

“I’m so smart I didn’t learn anything cause I had pre-knowledge on it all,” Miller said.

Although movies might seem like a fun way just to escape from school, it shows that what students learn in the classroom can actually be applied in children's movies like The Lion King, and Mrs. Adams said she hopes that only good will come from it.

“I hope this is a memory that they have when they leave here,” Adams said.
