Need a place where you can go to be who you are and say what you want without being afraid of being judged or mocked, a place without judgment, and a place with understanding?

This is the kind of place that Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) provides.

"(GSA) gives kids a place to feel safe and talk about issues that are concerning them," said adviser Vicki Clock, who has been adviser of GSA for five years.

The club, which has been around since the 1999-2000 school year, will have its next meeting Nov. 17 right after school in Ms. Clock’s room.

Senior Jennifer Grimm is the president of GSA and has been involved since she was a freshman.

"(GSA) is a big part of my life. Fighting for rights (people) should have is important to me," Grimm said, "and spreading the word is one of the best ways to go about that."

To Grimm, the most important part of GSA is being able to wipe out the ignorance about the subject of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) rights.

Grimm said, "A lot of people are afraid to be who they are because of negative thoughts on the subject."

GSA is important to sophomore Katrina Tibbits because, "It represents a place where you can go and not worry about what people think."

A large misconception about GSA is that you have to be gay to participate, but that is wrong. It is called Gay-Straight Alliance because it is about people learning to get along, not stay separate.

Senior Chris Enders said he is a part of GSA because "the people who are affected by the GLBT movement need the help and support and need someone to show that there is caring support for them."
