Offensive coordinator and
quarterback coach Preston Leathers is returning for his second year at
Starkville for the 2011 season.
With a father who always coached,
football was in his blood and he started playing in the seventh grade and
always knew that coaching was in his life lineup.
Now in his nineth year of coaching, Leathers is glad to be doing what he does.
“I always grew up around
football,” Leathers said. “I’ve always loved it, so I decided that’s what I
wanted to do.”
As a first- year offensive coordinator and QB coach, Leathers is setting high
goals for his offensive line.
“He (junior Gabe Myles) is doing a fantastic job,” Lathers said. “He’s actually
ahead of where I expected him to be at this point. He’s been consistent for us,
making plays with arms and legs, and I’m just looking for him to get better and
better.”
Leathers has many great ideas and techniques to work with young new
quarterbacks.
He works with the players on their
footing and judgments of depth as well as many other factors that help the
offense win ballgames.
“We have got to get better on offense, there is no question,” Leathers said. “I
think a lot of it is youth, and that we will get better as the year goes on.”
Leathers hopes to improve his team and his coaching game throughout his time at
Starkville High.
